Sorry we have been so quiet... We are in the midlands now and gearing up to start filming on Monday 8th March. The Cast has been rehearsing and their names will be released by a press release soon.

We are needing Extras....

Extras will need to be from the KZN area as they will need to provide their own accomodation and transport.

The Final Teen Cast has been Selected and finalized !!!!

We have already contacted each of these cast members telephonically to tell them the good news and we will post the names of the Spud cast by the end of the week. If you have not been called by now then unfortunately you have not made the final selection.

.... Thank you to EVERYONE who was involved in the Spud auditions. You were all FANTASTIC and made the final selection incredibly difficult... There were numerous debates, discussions and many hours of watching the auditions before the final decisions were made.

Hi Spud Fans

Just an update...

Callbacks have been very exciting and we are making good progress with finding the teen roles. We will finish off the year this weekend with the Cape Town callbacks, the Spud Team will then go on holiday until mid January. Next year we will wrap up the casting process with the Grahamstown callbacks and hopefully by the end of January we will have the cast set.

Online Auditions

If you have missed the opportunity to audition...

Please upload a 2 minute clip of yourself auditioning as your favourite character... Be creative and improvise a scene from the book. The director and producers will watch these videos and consider them for the call back process.

Once you have uploaded your video, email me the link and I will post it on the site, do this by the 31st October.

Call back people will be notified before the 13th November.

Latest Info...

Everyone who wishes to audition for Spud will need to fill out the online audition form to be considered for a casting opportunity. Please note that you will need to upload a clear, portrait picture of yourself as part of the application process.

If you are from Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Cape Town or Johannesburg we will accept your form. If you are from another region, please upload your one minute audition clip on our YouTube site.

As there are many applicants, not everyone will get selected to attend a regional audition. If we would like to audition you, we will send a confirmation email with an allocated audition date, venue and time.

Please note... Only one application form may be submitted and that these audition forms are for the teen roles only !!

The first auditions will be held in Durban
Date: Sunday 9th & Monday 10th August

SPUD – CASTING BRIEF

If you think you’ve got the look and the ability and meet the criteria below, then maybe you could be in SPUD, the movie!

SPUD – male/must look 13yrs old.
You have to be cute and small in size and your voice can’t have broken yet. A big bonus would be an amazing singing voice (though not essential). You must be bright and intelligent and love to read. If you keep your own diary that would be a big plus.

RAMBO – male/must look 14yrs old.
You have to be big and strong. Dark hair is best. You must be confident and popular with lots of friends. Being a bit of rebel would definitely help. If you’re the kind of guy everyone listens to and always the leader then you might be Rambo. Bring attitude!

GECKO– male/must look 14yrs old.
You have to be small with very pale skin. Having lots of freckles would help. If you have thick glasses that would be cool. Despite the fact that Gecko isn’t popular, he is far more mentally mature than the other boys and much more intelligent. So show a little confidence and belief in yourself.

MAD DOG– male/must look 14yrs old.
You have to be a little crazy to play this part. Looks aren’t that important, but big confidence and lots and lots of mad energy is required.

VERN– male/must look 14yrs old.
You have to be to act as though you’re demented and weird. Looking different would certainly help! Vern is not totally sane so bring something a little deranged to your audition.

FATTY - male/must look 14yrs old.
You have to be a big big boy to get this role. The more extra pounds you pack the better. But you also have to be confident and strong. Fatty is no push over!

SIMON - male/must look 14yrs old.
You have to be tall and good looking and a good sportsman, particularly at cricket. You have to be confident and speak well.

BOGGO - male/must look 14yrs old.
Having acne is no problem if you want to play Boggo. Boggo is different to all the other boys. He has no sense of personal hygiene and wears what he likes, enjoys being alternative and doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him. If you like girls a lot, then that would help!

P.J.LUTHULI – black / male/ must look 17.
Strong, proud and regal. He walks like a chief and commands the respect of all the boys. If you are confident, strong with powerful looks and an excellent speaking voice, you could be Luthuli.

PIKE - male/must look 16.
Pike is the baddy. If you can act cruel, conniving and nasty and can strike fear into new boys, then you may be Pike.

THE MERMAID - female/must look 14.
If you are blonde, cute, beautiful, sweet and petit, you may be the Mermaid.

AMANDA - female/must look 16.
If you are gorgeous, tall with dark or red hair, with loads of confidence and sex appeal then you could be Amanda. A good singing voice would be a major plus.

CHRISTINE - female/must look 15.
The tomboy. If you are strong and playful with lots of self belief, then you could be Christine.

Movie update

Spud the movie is well on track for a 2010 shoot and cinema release. Casting for the movie will begin in August 2009.

Information about how to audition will be available at www.spudthemovie.com from 15 July when the film’s website launches. Visit the website from that date to find out when, where and how to audition.

There will also be an online process so that we can go to the ends of the earth or least the ends of Mpumalanga to find our Fatty and the rest of the crazy Spud characters.
